Job summary

Assistant Engineer Level 1 at Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Construction & Development assists in designing, developing, implementing, and analyzing technical systems and facilities. Works with senior engineers on plans, designs, computations, and reports.

This role performs basic engineering tasks with standard techniques and may participate in site visits across facilities and construction sites, with training in project management and capital project support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Minimum 18 months as Engineer Trainee.
• Successful completion of the FE exam.
• Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Federal, State and local permitting regulations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist under a Manager or Engineer.
• Perform elementary engineering work in scope development, design, contract proposals, or capital construction oversight.
• Support capital projects through project controls, environmental engineering, or other engineering functions.
• Receive training in engineering, construction, project management, and capital project support.
• Participate in site visits and fieldwork at MTA facilities and active construction sites.
• Manage and contribute to a variety of challenging projects.
• Apply academic learning to engineering principles, critical thinking, and analysis.
• Perform other duties as required.
