Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Technical Accountant/Accounting Manager in Mesa, AZ.

The role leads a four-person accounting team and owns the monthly close, balance sheet reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements for lenders, auditors, and internal stakeholders. You will act as a technical accounting resource, evaluate complex transactions, document positions, and stay current with accounting guidance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
• CPA certification required.
• Minimum five years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience supervising or leading a team.
• Public accounting experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, coach, and develop a team of four accounting professionals.
• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close calendar and processes.
• Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution.
• Prepare financial statements for lenders, auditors, and management.
• Evaluate technical accounting implications of complex transactions.
• Document accounting positions with GAAP references.
• Monitor new accounting guidance and implement policy updates.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies and SOX controls.
• Coordinate with external auditors during reviews and audits.
• Partner with FP&A and Treasury for covenant reporting.
• Identify opportunities to improve close efficiency, including automation.
• Support internal audits and controls maintenance.
