Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Services, Inc. (GRSI) in Mesa, AZ is seeking an experienced accounting professional responsible for preparing financial statements and reports in accordance with applicable accounting guidance.

The role analyzes reserves, assets, and expenditures, supports forecasts and budgets, and escalates complex tasks as needed. The position requires strong analytical and communication skills, teamwork, and adherence to internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is preferred.
• CPA certification is required.
• Degrees in finance, business, or related fields will be considered.
• Master's degree is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in closing and reporting duties, including journal entries and GL account analysis
• Evaluate technical accounting implications of nonroutine events (leases, contracts, revenue arrangements)
• Communicate and coordinate with other departments
• Analyze reports for reserves, assets and expenditures
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal controls
• Prepare for and participate in audits (internal and external)
• Contribute to team effort and cross-functional projects
• Represent the function in special projects and assignments
