Job summary

LTA Research & Exploration is seeking a Principal Systems Safety Engineer in Sunnyvale, CA to serve as the technical authority within the Systems Engineering function, owning the system-level safety, verification, and certification strategy for a vehicle program.

This role requires broad mastery across subsystems, MBSE, and regulatory interactions; you will mentor engineers, lead cross-functional teams, and define architectures and verification plans.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in aerospace systems with certification experience.
• Experience with FAA/EASA ARP4754A/ARP4761.
• Lead SSA, FHA, PSSA, FMEA/FMECA, and FTA analyses.
• Strong MBSE and model-based design experience.
• Proven leadership of multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Innovate system-safety approaches for high-stakes integration and certification.
• Conduct and own System Safety Assessments (SSA) and supporting analyses per ARP4754A/ARP4761.
• Architect and validate complex system-of-systems architectures and integration approaches.
• Apply MBSE methods using Cameo/MagicDraw to support requirements, design, and interfaces.
• Define the verification and integration strategy for vehicle programs and major systems.
• Support system-level certification strategy and means-of-compliance for airworthiness.
• Act as primary SME during audits/regulatory interactions and own certification artifacts.
• Coordinate certification deliverables across subsystems per DO-178C / DO-254 / MIL-STD-882.
• Provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams and align engineering around shared goals.
• Lead root-cause analysis to resolve highly ambiguous, cross-system issues.
• Develop robust solutions to reduce program cost or schedule.
