Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to advance the SPARC and ARC tokamak programs. You will lead requirements management, interface coordination, risk assessment, and system-level trade studies across mechanical, electrical, and control domains.

The role emphasizes cross-disciplinary collaboration, learning new topics, and proactive problem solving with diverse stakeholders to validate mission objectives and drive successful integration and testing of complex systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in Systems Engineering or related roles.
• Experience with large, integrated and complex systems; fusion/energy experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical concepts and ability to learn new topics.

Responsibilities

• Elicit, decompose, and establish traceability of system requirements in a requirements database.
• Support requirements-driven architecture trade studies for a system.
• Coordinate, define, and control interfaces between systems and interfacing systems.
• Conduct trade studies to drive technical decision making and present proposals for closures.
• Perform risk assessments on systems using FMEA methodologies and manage risk.
• Develop and implement risk mitigation plans for the system baseline.
• Manage changes affecting scope, schedule, cost, or interfaces.
• Assist design reviews and develop verification/validation tests.
• Develop test plans and evidence against requirements verification and validation.
