Job summary

Wabtec seeks a Systems Engineer to lead design, development, integration, and deployment of Train Handling solutions, applying core systems engineering and product development processes. You will define and manage requirements, coordinate verification activities, and contribute to product strategy and feature development.

The role emphasizes an AI-native mindset to accelerate innovation, improve product quality, and enhance customer outcomes, with travel across domestic and international sites

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum of 5 years hands-on design, requirements development and implementation experience involving; Engineering Systems, Hardware / Software Engineering, and/or Data Information Systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, integration, testing, and enhancement of Train Handling solutions while applying sound systems engineering principles and established product development processes.
• Elicit, analyze, define, and manage customer and system requirements, ensuring alignment with product objectives, operational needs, and business priorities.
• Partner with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Software Engineering, Train Control, Office Systems, Safety, Validation, and Applications Engineering, to deliver high-quality solutions on schedule.
• Drive requirements reviews, design reviews, technical assessments, and verification and validation activities throughout the product lifecycle.
• Investigate and resolve complex technical issues by analyzing system performance, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
• Plan and execute field testing, validation, and operational evaluations to ensure solutions meet customer expectations and performance requirements.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, engineering deliverables, project status updates, and system specifications.
• Collaborate directly with railroad customers, subject matter experts, and internal stakeholders to understand operational challenges and translate them into effective technical solutions.
• Apply industry standards, engineering best practices, and emerging technologies to continuously improve product capabilities, reliability, and performance.
• Leverage AI-enabled tools and technologies to accelerate analysis, improve engineering productivity, support decision‑making, and enhance product innovation.
