Job summary

Wabtec is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead the architecture, strategy, development, and deployment of the Train Handling portfolio, including Trip Optimizer and Locotrol. You will drive complex system design decisions and ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and alignment with roadmaps and customer needs.

The role emphasizes an AI-native mindset to advance analytics, automation, and next-generation train operations, while mentoring engineers and shaping AI-driven product strategy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum of 10 years’ hands-on design, requirements development and implementation experience in Engineering Systems, Hardware/Software Engineering, and/or Data Information Systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for the architecture, strategy, and evolution of Wabtec's Train Handling solutions, ensuring alignment with product roadmaps, customer needs, and business objectives.
• Lead the development of complex system architectures, requirements, and design solutions balancing performance, safety, reliability, maintainability, and efficiency.
• Serve as the technical authority for major programs and initiatives across the product lifecycle from concept to deployment.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Software Engineering, Train Control, Office Systems, Safety, Validation, and Applications Engineering teams to define technical direction and execute strategic initiatives.
• Lead technical reviews, design reviews, trade studies, and validation activities to ensure robust solutions.
• Drive resolution of complex system and product issues using data-driven analysis and cross-functional problem-solving methodologies.
• Engage railroad executives, customers, industry stakeholders, and experts to understand challenges and develop innovative solutions.
• Guide field testing, demonstrations, and deployments to validate performance and adoption of new capabilities.
• Identify and champion emerging AI-enabled technologies and automation to improve customer value and differentiation.
• Establish engineering standards, processes, and mentor engineers across the organization.
• Promote an AI-native culture by adopting AI-enabled tools and analytics to improve efficiency and outcomes.
