Job summary

Cyngn, Inc. in Mountain View, CA, is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead system definition and architecture for autonomous vehicle and robotics platforms.

This hands-on role translates high-level product intent into detailed specifications and verification plans. You will own requirements decomposition, define interfaces, develop verification strategies, and drive safety certification efforts in a cross-functional environment with product, hardware, firmware, and software teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
• 8+ years of systems engineering experience for complex electro-mechanical systems (robotics, vehicles, industrial automation, autonomy).
• Strong ability to translate product requirements into detailed engineering specifications and verification plans.
• Solid understanding of ANSI B56 and related AMR/industrial vehicle safety frameworks.
• Hands-on familiarity with sensors, encoders, and motor/actuation concepts.
• Experience defining interfaces between sensors, embedded controllers, power electronics, and higher-level compute.

Responsibilities

• Translate product requirements into complete, testable system specifications (L2+).
• Define system architectures and interfaces for autonomous platforms (sensors, compute, power, actuation).
• Own requirements decomposition, allocation, and traceability across domains.
• Develop system-level verification plans, test strategies, and acceptance criteria.
• Lead trade studies, risk assessments, and safety-focused architectural decisions.
• Act as the systems engineering contact for industrial safety certification and compliance.
• Collaborate with product, safety, hardware, firmware, software, and test teams to ensure alignment.
• Drive cross-functional design reviews and system readiness milestones.
• Support integration, debugging, and validation during development and deployment.
