Job summary

Moraine Valley Community College is seeking a Senior System Administrator to design, install, and maintain Windows servers and MS-SQL databases supporting college systems. The role focuses on security, integration, and performance across enterprise services.

Hybrid and on-site duties are possible with a primary on-site expectation at Main Campus in Palos Hills, IL; 24/7 on-call support is required. Requires 3–5 years in IT and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

  • Three to five (3-5) years’ IT experience required.
  • Experience with MS-SQL Administration and Azure/Windows certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Review design, installation, and maintenance of Windows servers and databases.
  • Administer MS-SQL databases and ensure security and integrity.
  • Manage cloud-based identity and access management (Azure AD, ADFS).
  • Oversee data flows and integrations between enterprise systems.
  • Support college systems including bookstore POS, SAS, and BI/Reporting tools.

Overview

Job Title: Senior System Administrator
Department: Infrastructure & Network Services
Work Location: Main Campus

Duties

Under direction, the Senior System Administrator is responsible for reviewing the design, installation, maintenance, training, and support of Windows servers and database functions, hardware and software used to support the college’s systems. The Senior System Administrator is responsible for the following. Other duties may be assigned. The Senior System Administrator is dedicated to learning college concepts by developing programs and facilitating activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.

  • Administration and support of data flows between enterprise systems as well as contributing to the development and operation of those integrations.
  • Pre-installation activities of purchased software and vendor releases while also establishing software standards, conducting capacity planning, and managing system resource allocation for institutional products.
  • Ensuring security and integrity of all operating system software and related applications. Analyzes production issues, identifies root causes and provides recommendations for operational improvements.
  • Responsible for administration of all MS-SQL databases associated with the college’s business systems including performing full DBA functions and maintaining database authority.
  • Responsible for administration of cloud-based identity and access management services. Responsible for ADFS, Azure Entra ID SSO, and AD integration with all other systems at the college.
  • Responsible for the administration and operational support of the college’s bookstore point-of-sale system, SAS application, and Business Intelligence and Reporting systems.
Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required. Three to five (3-5) years’ experience in IT required. Experience with MS-SQL Administration. MS-SQL certification and Azure and Windows certification.

Qualifications
  • Must have demonstrated analytical ability to logically approach applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Windows-based enterprise operating systems and related network services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in ADFS and integration techniques; identities management in Azure AD; integrating third party applications with Azure Intra ID SSO; MS-SQL database administration.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and Python; hybrid IT infrastructure; provisioning SQL databases in Azure; Hyper-V and SAN technologies; database design and information retrieval techniques; Linux and monitoring tools (such as Nagios and Grafana).
  • Basic Knowledge of SharePoint Administration, both on-premise and online; Azure infrastructure administration; SAS, SAP BO, PBIRS and reporting solutions; POS systems and their integration with third-party applications.
  • Self-starter with strong aptitude for adapting to technological changes and learning new platforms.
  • Above average communication skills.
Position Status

Full Time

Hours

General Hours – Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Primarily on-site. Alternative hybrid work arrangement/remote days may be available. On-call 24/7 for emergencies. Must be a resident of IL/IN or reciprocal state. Sponsorship is not available.

Salary/Wage

$70,075-$90,000 plus exceptional benefits
