Job summary

Bryan Health seeks a Surgical Technologist to act as a key member of the multidisciplinary perioperative team. You will prepare, organize, and anticipate needed instruments and supplies for safe patient care and operative procedures in the OR and LDR.

Essential duties include passing instruments, handling specimens, and assisting with perioperative care under RN and physician supervision. Prior surgical tech certification is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of asepsis and sterile technique.
• Knowledge of standard and transmission-based precautions.
• Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
• Skill in holding retractors and cutting sutures.
• Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and patient safety.
• Ability to maintain a sterile surgical field.
• Ability to perform accurate sponge, sharp and instrument counts.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to operate and maintain relevant surgical equipment.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
• Ability to effectively perform work under stressful and in emergent situations.
• Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Responsibilities

• Functions in the scrub role by preparing, organizing, and anticipating needed instruments, supplies, and equipment for safe patient care and operative procedure.
• Safely and efficiently passes surgical instruments and supplies in the operating room (OR) and labor and delivery room (LDR).
• Delivers medications (drugs or biologicals) received in the surgical suite to the appropriate operating room via case cart or medication cart.
• Counts/preps surgical instruments and supplies.
• Handles and prepares medication for use on the sterile field in the operating room under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and physician.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement measures to achieve positive patient outcomes.
