Job summary

Tombigbee Healthcare Authority Operating Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital is seeking an OR support role to assist the surgical team before, during, and after procedures.

The candidate will handle instruments, maintain sterile technique, and perform routine patient care under RN supervision. Responsibilities include admissions processes, patient positioning, and assisting in Outpatient Service Center and Endoscopy areas as needed.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED certificate required.
• Shift 7a-3p; after-hours surgical call; prior experience preferred.
• Must read, write and speak English to communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and the public.
• Acts as a member of the surgical team in the OR delivering direct patient care.
• Ability to handle instruments, supplies and equipment and maintain sterile field.
• Perform routine nonprofessional patient care under RN supervision.
• Performs general clerical duties for the surgical services department.
• Current CPR Certification.
• Assist in Outpatient Service Center and Endoscopy areas as indicated.
• Willingness to work beyond normal hours.

Responsibilities

• Good verbal and written communication with staff.
• Visual/hearing ability to comprehend written/verbal communication.
• Ability to perform tasks including heavy lifting and extensive bending/standing.
• Support admissions, transfers and discharges with proper patient identification.
• Assist in positioning patients for surgery under RN supervision and maintain asepsis.
• Set up cases with equipment and supplies per physician preference cards.
• Pass instruments in a firm and timely manner during procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment and document relevant data accurately.
