Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of current acute Operating Room experience.
• High School Diploma/GED.
• Basic Life Support.
• Surgical Technicians certified by the Association of Operating Room Technicians, affiliated with the Association of Operating Room Nurses shall qualify as Senior Surgical Technicians upon presentation of their certificate.
• Willing to participate in training of RNs and other disciplines in the scrub role.
• Strong experience with minimally invasive, general, ENT, eyes, plastics, orthopedics, vascular, open heart-thoracic, spine, urology, GYN, podiatry, maxillofacial, and neuro surgery specialties.

Responsibilities

• Direct, check, review, assign, organize, coordinate and report on the work of one or more Surgical Technicians.
• Coordinate configuration of equipment to provide ease of use and ensure sterility and readiness for procedures.
• Assist with patient positioning, scrubbing, gowning and gloving.
• Pass instruments to surgeon, hold retractors and assist during operations.
• Count sponges, needles and instruments per hospital policy.
• Promote patient safety goals and assist in room turnover.
• Wash and sterilize equipment.
• Advise management on equipment use and procurement needs.
• Assemble case carts for procedures and prep supplies.
• Perform other related duties as necessary.
• Supervisory responsibilities: motivate and direct other staff.
