Job summary

Kaiser Permanente is seeking a Surgical Technician in California to assist the surgical team before, during, and after operations. You will support instrument maintenance, setup, and turnover across multiple specialties, ensuring sterility and readiness of equipment.

Two years of acute OR experience, a high school diploma, and BLS are required. The role includes training RNs and other staff in scrub techniques within a Labor Management Partnership environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of current acute Operating Room experience.
• High School Diploma/GED.
• Basic Life Support certification.
• Surgical Technicians certified by the Association of Operating Room Technicians, affiliated with the Association of Operating Room Nurses shall qualify as Senior Surgical Technicians upon presentation of their certificate.
• Strong experience with minimally invasive, general, ENT, eyes, plastics, orthopedics, vascular, open heart-thoracic, spine, urology, GYN, podiatry, maxillofacial, and neuro surgery specialties.
• Must be willing to participate in training of RNs and other disciplines in the scrub role.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other incumbents of the organization.
• Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.

Responsibilities

• Direct, check, review, assign, organize, coordinate, train and report on the work of one or more other Surgical Technicians; or who have at least two years experience as a Surgical Technician plus the demonstrated ability to perform complex techniques under supervision.
• Coordinate configuration of equipment to provide ease of use; place equipment and supplies in operating room and arrange instruments according to instructions.
• Assist with set up and use of equipment during procedures and allocate equipment for daily procedures.
• Assist team with placing and positioning patient on table; scrub arms and hands and don gown and gloves; scrub procedures as primary or secondary staff.
• Hands instruments and supplies to surgeon, hold retractors, and perform other tasks during operation; count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after operation.
• Actively participate in meeting patient safety goals in promoting quality and safe patient care.
• Clean operating room and assist in room turnover.
• Wash and sterilize equipment.
