Job summary

The Jonus Group is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead a growing underwriting team in Cincinnati, OH. You will assess risk, support profitability, and foster strong stakeholder relationships while guiding strategic decisions.

A bachelor’s in finance or accounting and at least five years in underwriting are required; CPA/AFSB/RPLU progressions are a plus. The role emphasizes leadership, analytical thinking, and clear communication to drive growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in underwriting or a related field.
• Progression toward professional certifications such as Associate in Surety and Fidelity Bonding (AFSB), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) is preferred.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships.
• Exceptional decision-making, analytical, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret business reports, including credit checks, bank agreements, and financial statements, to support underwriting processes.
• Oversee risk selection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability for the assigned branch office.
• Ensure compliance with company guidelines in assessing risk quality.
• Review underwriting decisions and provide recommendations for extending surety credit, including terms and conditions.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and communicate effectively with all parties.
• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team to achieve organizational objectives.
• Make timely, informed decisions using independent judgment and initiative.
