Job summary

IAT Insurance Group is seeking a Senior Surety Claims Counsel who reports to the VP, Claims Counsel and collaborates with the SVP, Chief Legal Officer. You will review, investigate, resolve, and negotiate performance bond defaults, payment bond, subdivision, and commercial bond claims.

The role offers a hybrid schedule with in-office days Monday through Wednesday and remote options Thursday and Friday; fully remote arrangements may be considered for the ideal candidate.

Qualifications

• JD with 7+ years of relevant Surety Claims and/or Construction Law experience.
• Licensed insurance adjuster or ability to obtain insurance adjuster license as needed in assigned regions.
• Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
• Authorized to work in the United States and not require VISA sponsorship now or in the future.
• Supervisory experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Interacts with claimants, owners, and field management to resolve complex claims issues.
• Drafts and negotiates documents such as Surety Takeover/Completion agreements and related reports.
• Collaborates with underwriters in assigned regions.
• Reviews costs, payments, and ledgers for work in progress.
• Supervises outside counsel and consultants’ bills for approval.
• Recommends reserves and manages litigation and salvage actions.
• Analyzes payment bond claims and makes recommendations.
• Selects, develops, and trains staff to achieve objectives.
• Monitors and evaluates employee performance.
