Job summary

IAT Insurance Group is seeking a Senior Surety Claims Counsel to support claims leadership across office locations in the United States. The role focuses on reviewing, investigating, resolving, and negotiating performance bond defaults, payment bond claims, subdivisions, and commercial bond claims.

The position offers a hybrid work schedule (Mon–Wed in office with optional remote Thu–Fri) and may allow fully remote arrangements for the ideal candidate. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• JD/LLB required for licensure or eligibility.
• 7+ years of relevant Surety Claims and/or Construction Law experience.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with claimants, owners, and attorneys to resolve complex claims.
• Drafts and negotiates Surety Takeover/Completion Agreements, reports and exposure analyses.
• Collaborates with underwriters in assigned regions to manage risk.
• Reviews work in progress schedules, costs to complete, and ledgers.
• Supervises outside counsel and consultants’ bills for approval.
• Recommends reserves and manages litigation and salvage actions.
• Analyzes payment bond claims and makes recommendations on payment.
• Selects, develops, and trains staff to meet objectives; monitors performance.
• Other duties as required.
