Job summary

IAT Insurance Group is seeking a Senior Surety Claims Counsel to report to the VP, Claims Counsel and work closely with the SVP, Chief Legal Officer as well. The role is responsible for reviewing, investigating, resolving, and negotiating performance bond defaults, payment bond claims, subdivision, and commercial bond claims.

The position offers a hybrid schedule from any IAT Office (Monday through Wednesday on-site, with the option of working Thursday and Friday remotely) and may consider fully

Qualifications

• JD with 7+ years of relevant Surety Claims and/or Construction Law experience.
• Licensed insurance adjuster or ability to obtain insurance adjuster license as needed in assigned regions or license with reciprocity to assigned regions.
• Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
• Authorized to work in the United States without VISA sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with claimants' attorneys and owners and with field management to resolve complex claims issues.
• Drafts and negotiates documents such as Surety Takeover and Completion Agreements and exposure analyses.
• Collaborates with underwriters in assigned regions.
• Reviews work in progress schedules, costs to complete, and ledgers.
• Supervises outside counsel and consultants’ bills for approval.
• Recommends reserves and manages litigation and salvage actions.
• Analyzes payment bond claims and makes recommendations.
• Selects, develops, and trains staff to achieve objectives.
