Job summary

IAT Insurance Group is seeking a Senior Surety Claims Counsel to report to the VP Claims Counsel and collaborate with the SVP, Chief Legal Officer on reviewing, investigating, resolving, and negotiating performance bond defaults, payment bonds, subdivision and commercial bond claims.

The position offers a hybrid schedule from any IAT office Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working Thursday and Friday remotely; fully remote arrangements may be considered for the ideal candidate.

Qualifications

• JD with 7+ years of relevant Surety Claims and/or Construction Law experience.
• Licensed insurance adjuster or ability to obtain license as needed in assigned regions.
• Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
• Authorized to work in the United States and not require visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Interact with attorneys for claimants and owners and with field management to resolve complex claims.
• Draft and negotiate Surety Takeover and Completion Agreements, correspondence, reports and Exposure Analyses.
• Collaborate with underwriters in assigned regions.
• Review and analyze work in progress schedules, costs to complete, accounts payable and receivable ledgers.
• Supervise outside counsel and consultants’ bills before submitting for approval.
• Recommend reserves.
• Manage litigation and salvage recovery actions.
• Analyze payment bond claims and advise on payments.
• Select, develop, train, and evaluate staff to achieve objectives.
• Monitor and evaluate employee performance.
• Other duties as required.
