Job summary

Bolton & Menk, Inc. seeks a Senior SUE Technician to join our Emerging Markets & Services team. The role focuses on field-collected data, coordinating with engineers, surveyors, and utility owners to map underground infrastructure and support safe project execution.

You will lead field crews on complex projects, apply geophysical equipment, and ensure accurate documentation, while maintaining equipment and adhering to ASCE 38-22 standards and company safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Surveying Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Geomatics, or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in utility locating, Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), surveying, construction inspection, utility construction, or related field services.
• Experience operating geophysical utility locating equipment preferred.
• Experience with vacuum excavation equipment or utility exposure techniques preferred.
• Basic understanding of ASCE 38 standards and utility quality levels.
• Knowledge of underground utility systems including water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, electric, gas, and telecommunications infrastructure.
• Ability to read maps, utility records, construction plans, and field documentation.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work safely in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to travel frequently to project sites and work extended periods away from home as project needs dictate.

Responsibilities

• Perform SUE field assignments on routine to moderately complex projects.
• Lead field crews on complex projects and coordinate with engineers, surveyors, and utility owners.
• Apply geophysical equipment to accurately designate underground utility layouts.
• Maintain and up-keep of vehicles, work sites, and equipment.
• Ensure proper maintenance of traffic signage.
• Pursue skills in certification programs for advancement.
• Operate vacuum truck and related tools and equipment.
• Represent the company in field communications with third parties.
• Coordinate and perform survey activities in connection with SUE work.
• Supervise crew activities and train other crew members.
• Travel to facilities and project locations as necessary.
• Maintain confidentiality of company and client information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
