Job summary

Bolton & Menk is seeking a Senior SUE Technician to join our Emerging Markets & Services team in the United States. The role focuses on locating, documenting, and verifying underground utilities to support planning, design, and construction of community infrastructure projects.

You will lead field crews, apply geophysical equipment, and collaborate with engineers, surveyors, utility owners, and contractors to deliver high-quality data while maintaining safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Surveying Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Geomatics, or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in utility locating, Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), surveying, construction inspection, utility construction, or related field services.
• Experience operating geophysical utility locating equipment preferred.
• Experience with vacuum excavation equipment or utility exposure techniques preferred.
• Basic understanding of ASCE 38 standards and utility quality levels.
• Knowledge of underground utility systems including water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, electric, gas, and telecommunications infrastructure.
• Ability to read maps, utility records, construction plans, and field documentation.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work safely in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to travel frequently to project sites and work extended periods away from home as project needs dictate.

Responsibilities

• Perform Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) field assignments on routine to moderately complex projects while supporting the safe and accurate collection of underground utility information.
• Lead a field crew on complex projects.
• Selects and applies appropriate geophysical equipment to accurately designate complex underground utility layouts.
• Maintenance and up-keep of vehicle, work sites, and equipment.
• Selects and implements proper maintenance of traffic signage.
• Actively work toward obtaining the skills in the certification program required for advancement.
• Operates vacuum truck and related tools and equipment such as a jackhammer, pogo-tamper, concrete saw, compressor blower, vacuum hose and air lance and hand tools.
• Represents and communicates on behalf of company and crew when encountering third parties in the field.
• Coordinates and performs survey activities in connection with SUE work.
• Supervises all crew activities as assigned and trains other crew members.
• Travel to facilities and other projected related locations as necessary.
• Maintains confidentiality of company and client related information.
• Other duties as assigned.
