Job summary

McKim & Creed is seeking an experienced SUE Technician III to operate and manage a field crew focused on utility location and subsurface engineering. You will collect data accurately, train crew members on field equipment, and collaborate with construction teams to ensure safe excavation and installation of utilities.

Qualifications include 5–10 years in utility locating, proficiency with SUE equipment, total stations, and GPS, plus strong map/record interpretation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• 5–10 years of experience as a utility locator or SUE Technician.
• Strong knowledge of underground utilities and radar; ability to interpret maps/records.
• Ability to walk outdoors on varied terrain and endure adverse conditions.
• Proficient technical skills; process-oriented, analytical, detail oriented.
• Ability to work 50 hours during busy periods; travel and overnight stays as needed.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and operate field equipment.
• Background checks and pre-employment drug screening required.

Responsibilities

• Operate and manage a SUE field crew focusing on accuracy, safety, schedules, budgets, and client service.
• Train crew on field equipment including GPR, electromagnetic locators, vacuum excavation tools.
• Collaborate with construction crews to ensure safe excavation and utilities installation.
• Maintain accurate records of utility locations and updates.
• Conduct inspections to identify hazards or issues.
• Organize field work and direct crew members while collecting data and recording expenses.
• Adhere to company policies; some overnight travel; perform other duties as assigned.
