Job summary

McKim & Creed, Inc. is seeking a SUE Technician III to operate and manage a utility location and subsurface utility engineering field crew. You will collect data, locate features, and deliver information to the office while maintaining records and staying within budgets.

The role requires 5–10 years of experience, proficiency with SUE gear, total stations, GPS, and vacuum excavation, plus strong maps/radar knowledge. Overnight travel and lifting up to 50 pounds are expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 to 10 years of progressive experience as a utility locator or SUE Technician.
• Proficiency with SUE locating equipment, proficiency with total stations and GPS, SUE locating equipment and vacuum excavation equipment.
• Strong knowledge of underground utility systems and radar; the ability to interpret maps and records.
• Ability to walk outdoors for long periods of time through all kinds of terrain, working under adverse conditions.
• Proficient technical skills; process oriented, steady, honest, adaptable, analytical, and detail oriented.

Responsibilities

• Operate and manage the SUE field crew to ensure quality, safety, schedules, budgets, and responsive service to clients.
• Train crew members on the use of field equipment and safety protocols.
• Collaborate with construction crews and contractors to ensure safe excavation and installation of utilities.
• Maintain accurate records of utility locations and updates.
• Organize field work and direct crew, while delivering data to the office and tracking expenses.
• Travel as required, including overnight stays.
