Job summary

Asplundh Electrical Testing is seeking a Senior Relay Technician to ensure safe, reliable operation of medium- and high-voltage utility substations through protective relay testing, commissioning, and maintenance.

You will lead field operations, mentor onsite crews, and coordinate with project managers and utility customers while advancing relay protection schemes across transmission and distribution systems.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience protecting utility substations with medium to high voltage.
• Experience testing and commissioning protection schemes in real systems.
• Knowledge of microprocessor-based relays and modern relay test tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead field safety briefings and tailboards.
• Perform relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
• Test transmission/distribution protection schemes (distance, differential, overcurrent).
• Verify control circuits for transformers, breakers, feeders, capacitors.
• Support outage planning, energization, and restoration activities.
• Lead onsite technicians and coordinate with project managers and customers.
• Create accurate test reports and field documentation.
• Mentor junior relay technicians and participate in customer discussions.
