Job summary

Asplundh Electrical Testing seeks a Senior Relay Technician to lead protective relay testing, calibration, and commissioning for medium- and high-voltage substations. You will mentor onsite crews and coordinate with project managers and utility customers.

The role emphasizes testing and validating protection schemes, outage support, and producing precise field documentation with a strong focus on safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on protective relaying experience for utility substations.
• Experience testing 5kV–500kV protection systems.
• Knowledge of microprocessor-based relays and modern test platforms.
• OSHA 10 or 30 certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety briefings and reinforce a 'Safety First, Always' culture.
• Perform protective relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting and commissioning.
• Validate transmission and distribution protection schemes (distance, differential, OC, BF, bus).
• Verify control/protection circuits for transformers and capacitor banks.
• Support outage planning, energization, and restoration activities.
• Create accurate test reports and as-left settings.
• Mentor onsite technicians and coordinate with project managers and customers.
• Participate in job walks and customer technical discussions.
