Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Richland, WA is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to apply protective relaying and controls expertise for HV and EHV substations. The role involves mentoring engineers, guiding design phases, and coordinating with clients and vendors.

This hybrid position requires a BS in engineering, 12+ years of substation design experience at 138kV+, a PE license, and proficiency with relay equipment and design software. Relocation package offered; in-office 3 days per week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering required.
• 12+ years designing substations at 138kV+.
• PE license.
• Experience as firm/client liaison in a lead role.
• Experience with relay calculations documentation.
• Familiar with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI.
• Proficiency with SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, CDEGS, or vendor software.
• MS Office proficiency.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Work on a wide range of substation modifications and upgrades to support client requirements and reviews.
• Prepare relaying philosophies and configurations, develop SCADA concepts, and oversee I/O and diagrams.
• Guide junior and senior engineers and designers in protection and controls engineering design.
• Support challenging assignments involving troubleshooting and analyses.
• Perform studies and prepare calculations for client reviews.
• Review others' work including calculations and drawings for accuracy.
• Coordinate with engineers, PMs, clients, and vendors to ensure timely designs.
• Present findings and upgrade recommendations to clients.
