Job summary

Leidos in Charlotte, NC seeks a Lead Substation Physical Engineer to lead substation physical design projects for 12 kV–500 kV utility systems. You will read, design, and review one-lines, three-lines, grounding layouts, and foundation designs, while coordinating with internal teams and clients to meet standards, budgets, and schedules.

Responsibilities include QA/QC of design packages, BOM creation, field data collection, and mentoring junior staff; PE license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field).
• 8+ years in substation physical design.
• Experience with grounding studies and lightning protection.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support delivery of substation physical design projects on time.
• Collaborate with internal groups and clients to align needs and solutions.
• Perform QA/QC reviews on substation packages for accuracy and constructability.
• Read and review drawings: one-lines, three-lines, grounding layouts, foundations.
• Create and verify bills of materials for substation components.
• Conduct site visits to gather data and support execution.
