Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Substation Physical Project Designer in Chattanooga, TN. You will work with engineers and designers on high and extra-high voltage substation design, preparing and reviewing detailed drawings and BOMs.

The role requires 15+ years of experience, an associate degree in drafting or equivalent, and advanced CAD skills. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement with three days in the office and two remote days.

Qualifications

• Requires an Associates Degree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• 15+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.
• Ability to multi-task across projects.
• 3D visualization ability without CAD aid.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review substation drawings: General Arrangement, Equipment Plans, Elevations, BOM, Grounding Plans, Conduit and Details.
• Perform technical reviews of vendor deliverables and incorporate comments.
• Lead field walkdowns, interface with clients and contractors, and perform constructability walkdowns.
• Identify applicable codes and standards, provide guidance, and contribute to continuous improvements.
• Provide guidance to designers and drafters; supervise production of design deliverables.
• Develop cost-effective design approaches and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Obtain input for calculations and review calculations; manage work plan within budget and schedule.
