Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a seasoned Substation Design Engineer for a hybrid role based in Richland, WA, requiring 3 days in the office. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing substation drawings and leading field walkdowns at client facilities.

Ideal candidates have 15+ years of substation design experience and advanced CAD skills (AutoCAD/MicroStation). The role emphasizes adherence to standards, mentorship of staff, and coordinated design across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• 15+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of computer drafting tools (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
• Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.
• Ability to multi-task from project to project.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review substation drawings including General Arrangement, Electrical Equipment Plans, Elevations, Bill of Material, and Grounding Plans.
• Lead field walkdowns and interface with clients/contractors to discuss issues.
• Provide guidance on codes and standards and support design/drafting tools usage.
• Mentor designers and drafters; supervise production of deliverables.
• Develop cost-effective design approaches and ensure inputs for calculations.
