Job summary

WSP's Saint Louis, MO office is seeking a Lead Substation Project Engineer to join our Power & Energy Substation Team. You will lead complex substation design, manage project execution, and mentor junior staff in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Preferred candidates hold a PE license, a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, 7–10 years in 15kV–230kV substations, and hands-on experience with IEEE/ANSI standards, AutoCAD Electrical, and related tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 7–10 years of post-education experience in design for power generation, transmission, and distribution substations.
• PE license (Professional Engineer).
• Experience in 15kV–230kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
• Experience leading substation projects concurrently.
• Strong knowledge of associated disciplines: P&C, SCADA, telecom.
• Proficient in technical writing and design software.
• Ability to mentor junior staff and lead teams.

Responsibilities

• Support area leadership in achieving department goals and client relationships.
• Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Lead detailed design of substations, including one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA/communications, and layouts.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and manage safety and QA/QC.
• Provide construction support and site coordination during project execution.
• Mentor team members and ensure adherence to standards.
