Job summary

WSP is seeking an Experienced Substation Design Engineer for our Saint Louis, MO office to support the Power & Energy Substation Team on complex design projects. The role involves technical guidance, data analysis, and mentoring junior staff within a collaborative hybrid/in-office environment.

In this position, you will handle high-voltage substation design from 15kV to 345kV, pursue effective project execution, and contribute to reports, calculations, and presentations for client deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Experience designing power transmission and distribution systems for substations.
• Knowledge of HV design, codes, and standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance for the design, development, and construction of HV substations (15kV-345kV).
• Analyze substation components for procurement, pricing, and design reviews.
• Design substation layouts, bus arrangements, grounding, and protection systems.
• Review third-party designs and project plans with a focus on HV substations.
• Develop equipment sizing, cabling, AC/DC panel design, and conduit strategies.
• Support senior engineers with research and recommendations for design requirements.
• Prepare data visualizations, calculations, and technical reports for stakeholders.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute projects and manage costs.
