Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a senior structural engineer to lead the design, analysis, development, testing and qualification of pressurized and unpressurized launch vehicle structures for New Glenn’s second stage and payload accommodations.

You will own manufacturability initiatives, guide trade studies, develop 3D models and interface control documents, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with design, manufacturing, test, and operations to ensure flight readiness.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in engineering and typically 8+ years of related experience.
  • Significant experience on launch vehicles, aircraft, or similar systems.
  • Expertise in structural design and analysis for metallic aerospace structures.
  • CAD (Creo/Windchill), hand calculations, and FEA tool experience with flight hardware.
  • Experience in multi-functional teams to develop and produce engineered products.
  • Strong understanding of metallic design fundamentals and load paths; bolted joints.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical owner for structural design and configuration of launch vehicle structures.
  • Lead detailed design, analysis, development, and testing for production support and sustainment.
  • Dispositions for manufacturing nonconformances; lead in failure investigations and corrective actions.
  • Drive cross-functional problem resolution and influence priorities across design, manufacturing, test, and operations.
  • Develop and approve 3D models, drawings, assemblies, and interface control documents.
  • Lead structural test plans and verification for flight hardware; oversee test data analysis.
  • Mentor junior/mid engineers and grow structural engineering capability.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, plan make/buy decisions, and guide process selection.
  • Communicate schedule, budget, risk, and technical status for subsystems.
