Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced structural engineer to design and release stage 1 mid-module structures for the New Glenn vehicle. You will own the full design cycle from concept to release, perform analyses, and coordinate with cross-functional teams on multiple sites.

You will also develop CAD definitions, support procurement, and participate in subsystem testing while traveling up to 20% of the year to supplier and manufacturing locations in Florida.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree or higher in mechanical, structural, or relevant engineering field.
• 8+ years in professional engineering experience.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanics of materials, stress/strain, statics, structures sizing and FEA.
• Experience with large primary or secondary structures.
• Experience with material selection, compatibility, and metallic manufacturing techniques (sheet metal, machining).
• Familiarity with tolerance, GD&T and design for manufacturability.
• Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3D CAD software.
• Strong PDM skills (Windchill, TeamCenter).
• Hands-on experience with hardware on the production floor or in service.
• Ability to travel 0%-20% of the year to FL suppliers/manufacturing facilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering scope to close including planning, design, structural analysis, engineering release, procurement, and test.
• Own the complete design cycle of structure components from concept through release.
• Develop, release, and maintain a full CAD and drawing engineering definition package.
• Support procurement activities to meet build schedules.
• Support integrated test objectives, data review, and reporting.
• Perform or facilitate emergent analysis for non-conformances.
• Participate in subsystem level testing including planning, execution, data reduction and analysis.
• Collaborate with multi-functional teams across sites (design, analysis, materials, processes, structures, fluids, systems, procurement, manufacturing).
