Job summary

United Launch Alliance (ULA) in Decatur, AL seeks a Strength Analyst to perform structural analysis, including non-linear methods, and to develop models and hand calculations for new designs.

You will review layouts and drawings for propulsion and mechanical systems, make design recommendations based on analysis, and document results in formal strength reports while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
• Ability to make design recommendations based on analysis results/experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office tools.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• General understanding of materials and material properties.
• Experience with Structural Analysis (Tanks, Adapters, Brackets).
• Experience analyzing propulsion hardware (tubing, ducting, flex joints).
• Experience with NASGRO fracture mechanics tool and ABAQUS.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams.
• Understanding of fatigue/fracture analysis tools and methodology.

Responsibilities

• Performing strength, fatigue and fracture analysis of structural components, including non-linear analysis.
• Create analysis models, perform hand calculations and provide strength inputs for new designs.
• Review and approve 3-D layouts, models, drawings and changes for propulsion, fluid and mechanical systems.
• Develop engineering design recommendations considering thermal, mechanical and pressure loading.
• Document analysis results in strength reports.
• Support internal peer reviews, table top reviews and formal design reviews.
• Support fast-paced design/analysis cycles and evaluate hardware non-conformances.
• Coordinate across functional and product teams; mentor junior engineers.
