Job summary

ULA in Decatur, Alabama seeks an Engineer with 2+ years in structural analysis to support propulsion and mechanical systems. You will model, analyze, and document strength with NASRAN, NX, ABAQUS, and MATLAB, contributing to design reviews and production support.

Candidates should have a BS in engineering, strong communication, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams. Relocation may be available; a 9/80 schedule is mentioned in the posting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university
  • Ability to make design recommendations based on analysis results/experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are essential
  • General understanding of materials and material properties
  • Experience with Structural Analysis (tanks, adapters, brackets)
  • Experience analyzing propulsion hardware (tubing, ducting, flex joints)
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Understanding of fatigue/fracture analysis tools and methodology
  • Understanding of bolted joint modeling and analysis
  • Understanding of GD&T standards and principles
  • Understanding of analysis best practices and underlying assumptions
  • Understanding of basic hand calculations
  • Strong communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Performing strength, fatigue and fracture analysis of propulsion and structural components, including non-linear analysis for the Recurring Structural Analysis Team.
  • Create analysis models, perform hand calculations and apply analysis best practices to provide strength inputs for new designs and installations.
  • Review and approve 3-D layouts, models, designs/drawings and changes for propulsion, fluid and mechanical system components.
  • Make engineering design recommendations considering thermal, mechanical and pressure loading with appropriate material properties and safety factors.
  • Document analysis results in strength reports and support internal reviews.
  • Support internal peer reviews, tabletop reviews and formal design reviews as needed.
  • Assist in fast-paced design/analysis cycles and evaluate hardware non-conformances to support production activities.
  • Work with minimal mentor oversight.
  • Familiarity with the following tools/software: NASTRAN, FEMAP, NX CAD/Simulation, NASGRO, Unix/Linux tools, MathCad, ABAQUS, MATLAB, MS Office.
