Job summary

The City of Dana Point in California seeks an experienced civil/structural engineer to perform advanced plan reviews for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. You will ensure compliance with the California Building Code and related regulations, and provide guidance to architects, engineers, and the public.

You will also assist at the permit counter and support the Building Official in interpreting codes during complex reviews.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and five years of professional engineering or plan review experience.
Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in California, or ability to obtain via reciprocity within six months.
ICC Plans Examiner certification within six months of appointment.

Responsibilities

Review plans, specifications, and structural calculations for a wide range of buildings to ensure code compliance.
Collaborate with the Building Official and structural engineers on complex code interpretations.
Assist inspectors, design professionals and the public regarding construction requirements and code applications.
Provide support at the permit counter and advise applicants on plan modifications to meet codes.
Draft reports and maintain records related to plan reviews and permit processing.
