Job summary

The City of Santa Monica is seeking an experienced Plan Check Engineer to review architectural and structural drawings and calculations for compliance with California building standards. You will provide clear written responses, attend meetings with permit applicants to clarify comments and verify corrections, and approve drawings for permit issuance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering from an accredited university.
• Four years of civil/structural engineering or plan checking experience.
• Registration as a Civil/Structural/Electrical or Mechanical Engineer in California; CA driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Review architectural and structural drawings, calculations and reports for code compliance.
• Provide clear written review responses; attend applicant meetings for clarifications.
• Approve corrected drawings and reports for permit issuance.
• Advise staff on plan submittal routing, fee determination and permit status.
• Coordinate work assignments for staff and provide technical guidance to the team.
• Interpret building, energy and related code requirements for stakeholders.
