Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer in Reston, VA to lead structural analysis for spacecraft components from concept through qualification. You will perform advanced FEA (ANSYS/NASTRAN/Abaqus), hand calculations, and analytical modeling to validate designs capable of withstanding launch and in-orbit environments.

You will collaborate with design engineers, develop test plans, and mentor peers while focusing on mass optimization and structural reliability.

Qualifications

7+ years of structural analysis experience in aerospace or space.
Expert with FEA software (ANSYS/NASTRAN/Abaqus).
Experience performing hand calculations for stress.
Strong fundamentals in solid mechanics, dynamics, and materials.
Experience analyzing hardware for launch and space environments.
US citizenship or eligible for authorization.

Responsibilities

Own and execute structural analysis for spacecraft components from concept to verification.
Perform detailed FEA to model stress, strain, deformation, and modal response.
Develop analytical models to anchor and validate FEA results.
Analyze static, dynamic, and thermo-elastic loads on hardware.
Support structural test plans and physical testing (loads, vibration, shock).
Correlate analysis with test data to improve accuracy.
Collaborate with design engineers to improve mass and stiffness.
Mentor other engineers in structural analysis.
