Job summary

Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) is seeking a senior Structural Engineer for the Manufacturing Infrastructure Services team in Pittsburgh, PA.

The role focuses on design, analysis, and leadership of industrial facilities nationwide, with a path to ownership and growth within a 100% employee‑owned firm. You will mentor engineers, manage scope and budgets, and coordinate with allied disciplines to deliver high‑visibility projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related discipline is required
• 10+ years of structural engineering experience including experience supporting heavy industrial and manufacturing facilities.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary structural projects and directing teams of engineers and designers
• Active Professional Engineering License (P.E.)
• Demonstrated knowledge of building codes and structural standards including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, AISI, AWS D1.1, MBMA, SDI, and SJI.
• Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as STAAD, RISA, TEDDS, and spMats
• Experience evaluating and modifying existing structures and facilities
• Experience preparing and reviewing structural calculations, specifications, drawings, and construction documents
• Experience developing structural engineering scope, labor-hour estimates, schedules, and budgets
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients, project managers, technical staff, and other project disciplines
• Ability to travel up to 10% as required

Responsibilities

• Apply structural engineering codes, standards, and judgment in analysis and design of structural systems
• Analyze and design industrial buildings, foundations, pipe racks, crane/runway systems, and supporting structures
• Evaluate existing structures and develop modifications, repairs, strengthening, and additions
• Conduct and oversee structural analysis using software (STAAD, RISA, TEDDS, spMats)
• Establish design criteria and project-specific requirements
• Prepare and review calculations, drawings, and details for steel, concrete, masonry, and other systems
• Provide direction and quality oversight for designs, calculations, models, drawings, and specs
• Serve as structural discipline lead and main contact with PMs, clients, and contractors
• Serve as Engineer of Record for projects and packages as required
• Coordinate structural design with architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and process teams
• Manage scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables
• Perform field investigations and construction-phase support
• Train and mentor junior engineers and designers
• Develop labor-hour estimates for ongoing projects and proposals
• Participate in proposals and client communications and BD activities
