Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer for our Salt Lake City, UT office. You will lead structural design and analysis for diverse building projects, collaborating with a cross-functional team of engineers, architects, and planners to meet client objectives and regulatory standards.

You will develop construction drawings, calculations, and specifications, while mentoring junior engineers and ensuring QA/QC across deliverables. Travel may be required on project needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (required).
• 5–7 years of post-education experience in structural design, detailing, renovation and/or seismic strengthening across markets such as healthcare, higher education, civic, science and technology, life science, federal, commercial and/or residential.
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• Strong experience with lateral force-resisting systems & familiarity with the International Building Code.
• Proficient knowledge of structural engineering principles and their application to project work.
• Experience with design and construction administration on rehabilitation and new design projects.
• Working knowledge of relevant structural codes, regulations and QA/QC practices.
• Ability to perform technical computations and analyze plans against regulations.
• Project management experience with small to mid-size projects.
• Strong communication skills across engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Proficiency with RAM, ETABS, RAM Concept, and BIM tools; capability to develop technical reports.

Responsibilities

• Determine methods for data collection from sites, surveys, blueprints, and geotechnical data for project development.
• Conduct professional structural engineering work and assess conformance with codes and standards.
• Develop structural construction drawings, calculation packages, and specifications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure code-compliant design and delivery.
• Prepare data visualizations, tables, charts, reports, and 2D/3D illustrations for findings.
• Maintain QA/QC standards for accurate measurements and calculations.
• Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
• Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations detailing findings and recommendations.
• Support analysis and interpretation of data to inform action plans for risk mitigation.
• Engage with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
• Stay current with latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
