Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation seeks an experienced responsible-charge engineer to evaluate, design, and detail structures and bridges for new construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects. You will supervise engineers and technicians, coordinate plans, and ensure compliance with AASHTO and VDOT standards.

Lead projects, manage staff, and provide technical guidance across divisions, contractors, and FHWA stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
• Ability to estimate quantities and costs of materials.
• Ability to interpret construction plans and design specifications and produce structural design plans and notes.
• Ability to manage projects and review and administer consultant design contracts.
• Ability to supervise and train others.
• Valid Professional Engineer's license.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review structural designs for bridges and structures.
• Lead and supervise engineers and technicians on analysis and design tasks.
• Coordinate design activities with sections, divisions and consultants.
• Develop scopes of work, schedules, proposals and manhours.
• Provide technical guidance and leadership to staff.
