Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a responsible-charge bridge engineer to lead evaluation, design, and detailing of complex structures for new and rehab projects. You will supervise engineers and technicians, coordinate plans, and ensure compliance with AASHTO/VDOT standards.

The role requires PE licensure or active pursuit, strong project management, and effective communication with internal teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.
• Licensed PE preferred or actively pursuing PE.
• Experience with AASHTO LRFD structural design standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and review of bridge and structure plans for new construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects.
• Coordinate with sections, districts, consultants and stakeholders to meet project goals.
• Prepare and review technical reports and project schedules; manage staff tasks and budgets.
• Provide leadership and direction to engineering teams and ensure compliance with AASHTO/VDOT standards.
