Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking an experienced engineer to provide leadership in bridge design, analysis and construction oversight for complex projects. The role involves evaluating structures, preparing plans, and ensuring compliance with AASHTO and VDOT standards while coordinating with internal staff, consultants, and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
Ability to estimate quantities and costs of materials.
Ability to interpret construction plans and design specifications.
Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field.
Valid Professional Engineer's license.

Responsibilities

Prepare preliminary and final bridge and structure designs for new construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects.
Check structural plans for AASHTO and VDOT specifications and ensure accuracy.
Coordinate with project teams, consultants, and stakeholders to deliver objectives.
Lead project teams and manage documentation and schedules.
Fulfill duties as responsible charge engineer in compliance with policies.
