Job summary

LJB Inc. in South Portland, ME, is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Bridge Engineer to support and grow our Transportation Practice.

You will lead bridge design efforts from preliminary through final design, collaborating with DOT and municipal clients to deliver safe, durable infrastructure. The role requires a PE license, a civil engineering background with a structural emphasis, and 10+ years of bridge/culvert design experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a Structural emphasis.
• P.E. license.
• 10+ years of bridge/culvert design experience.
• DOT bridge design experience and thorough understanding of DOT guidelines, procedures, and plan preparation.
• Thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and Manual for Bridge Evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering design tasks for bridge projects from preliminary to final design.
• Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages.
• Have established working relationships and contact with client technical staff and project managers, especially in DOT and local governments.
• Provide engineering design services for traditional design-bid-build projects and design-build bridge projects.
• Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans.
• Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers.
• Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling performance.
• Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective action.
• Participate in projects by completing tasks within schedule and budget with teams comprised of different disciplines.
• Actively participate and serve in leadership positions in transportation related organizations such as ASHE, ASCE, NCSEA, etc.
• Other duties as assigned.
