Job summary

Hudbay is seeking a Senior Long Term Planning Engineer to define the strategic direction for our copper operation and to develop the Life-of-Mine plan at the Copper World Project near Sahuarita, Arizona. Location: Tucson area, on-site.

You will lead pit optimizations, schedule development, and economic analyses to guide major capital investments, while collaborating with geology, processing and finance teams to ensure safe, efficient, and value-driven operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering is required.
• 2+ years in short/medium term mine planning and 3+ years in long-term mine planning.
• Expert-level knowledge of Whittle, MinePlan 3D/MPSO, Deswik Go.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the Life-of-Mine (LOM) plan based on latest resource models and cost data.
• Perform ultimate pit limit optimizations, pushback designs, and phase sequencing to maximize NPV.
• Design long-term mine infrastructure, including pit limits, waste storage, stockpiles, haul roads and material handling sequencing.
• Build and validate long-term (5-year and LOM) mine schedules showing ore and waste movement and phase progression.
• Perform annual Reserve/Resource estimation and reporting.
• Prioritize safety in mine plans and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Develop and maintain long-range cost models (CapEx and OpEx).
• Conduct economic trade-off analyses and support business decisions with DCF modeling.
• Translate strategic models into actionable 5-year plans and support budgeting/rolling forecasts.
• Collaborate with Geology, Geotechnical, Hydrogeology, Processing and Finance to align inputs.
