Job summary

Hudbay is seeking a Senior Short-Term Planning Engineer to develop and optimize daily to monthly mine plans for the Copper World open-pit operation in Arizona. The role emphasizes translating long-term goals into actionable plans, while coordinating with operations, geology, and processing teams to maximize ore recovery and minimize dilution.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in mine planning, strong open-pit experience, and proficiency in Hexagon MinePlan and Deswik, plus excellent analytical

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering is required.
• 7+ years of proven experience in mine engineering in open pit operations, including 2+ years in short/medium term planning.
• Expert-level knowledge of mine planning software (Hexagon MinePlan 3D, Deswik) and MS Office.
• Strong understanding of open-pit mining methods and geological principles.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules (dig plans, drill and blast plans, haulage plans).
• Optimize short-term plans to maximize ore recovery and minimize dilution.
• Incorporate geological models, geotechnical data, processing constraints and costs into plans.
• Monitor production performance and report variances to management.
• Utilize mine planning software to evaluate and optimize plans.
• Ensure safety and compliance in all planning activities.
