Job summary

City of Indianapolis in the Department of Public Works seeks a Senior Civil Engineer to assist the Stormwater Administrator in overseeing the Stormwater Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), including planning and design of drainage projects across the Marion County Stormwater District.

You will supervise Senior Project Managers and Project Managers, coordinate with consultants, ensure work remains on schedule and within budget, contribute to policy updates, and support public meetings as needed.

Qualifications

• PE license in Indiana
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with 5 years of municipal project experience
• Knowledge of City, State, and federal policies for municipal design/construction
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience leading an engineering team and performing QA/QC
• At least 2 years of experience managing municipal projects

Responsibilities

• Assist the Stormwater Administrator in implementing the Stormwater CIP planning and design, including surface drainage, detention, and flood protection projects
• Recommend and establish policies and procedures for the Stormwater Engineering department to streamline operations
• Serve as a project manager with staff supervision and technical assistance for planning documents, engineering plans, and construction specs/cost estimates
• Perform QA/QC of plans, specs, and estimates
• Coordinate with DPW project managers to align with design and construction standards
• Participate in and support public meetings as needed
• Ensure design activity is on schedule and within budget and compliant with statutes and contracts
• Assist with updates to Flood Response Plan and Dam Emergency Response Plan
• Collaborate with consultants and staff to complete projects
• Coordinate with DPW Stormwater Operations for maintenance guidance
