Job summary

HM Insurance Group is seeking a senior underwriter to manage a multi-disciplinary block of stop-loss business. You will price and analyze risk, drive P/L, and oversee renewal and new business for the block, collaborating with Sales, Underwriting and Clinical teams in a matrix structure.

You will provide creative case-level solutions, lead and coach staff, and support negotiations. Travel 0–25% and training responsibilities are included.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Business Administration/Management or Computer and Information Science.
• 10–15 years of underwriting experience.
• Preferred CEBS, HIA, MHP, SA certifications.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal business within an assigned block using rating manuals, experience modules and clinical expertise to drive P/L and renewal metrics.
• Collaborate with Sales, Underwriting and Clinical to develop pricing actions to meet financial targets.
• Train and coach lower-level staff to expand consultative best practices across the department.
• Expand/enhance Underwriting Guidelines, processes and tools with client and market knowledge.
• Monitor block performance and report on emerging financial trends; develop strategies to meet targets.
• Act as subject matter expert to support Sales negotiations for renewals and new business.
