Job summary

WSP USA in San Jose invites an experienced Senior Technical Director, Stations Lead to oversee underground station design as Owner's Engineer. You will ensure technical deliverables meet requirements and coordinate with the GEC and external partners.

Based in a client office in San Jose, you will lead design coordination, review documents, and manage schedules, budgets, and safety standards across rail-transit projects, including BART interfaces and third-party reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related major; or equivalent experience.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • 15+ years of post-education experience in related roles within the industry.
  • 5+ years in a similar senior role is preferred.
  • Relevant experience includes large rail-transit design and construction projects, with preference for transit, tunnels, and BART (or similar) experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, implement, and manage multiple large-scale or complex projects, programs, documents, systems, and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead coordination for the Station Design team and SOE design efforts.
  • Prepare for and attend CWG and stakeholder coordination meetings.
  • Provide review of design documents and coordinate with BART on station design refinements.
  • Coordinate schedule of design delivery and construction schedule analysis with the project controls team.
  • Understand and facilitate delivery of contract packages by coordinating with Contract Leads, Specification Lead, and Procurement Lead.
  • Attend and facilitate design coordination meetings as required.
  • Support facilities engineering manager and engineering manager for program-related tasks.
  • Provide technical reviews of all station design documents—including structures, architecture, MEP, civil/site, utilities, and roadways—to assure DCM compliance and reduce construction costs through cost‑reduction assessments.
  • Act as liaison with other CPs on technical issues and interface definitions; liaison with VTA Design Manager.
  • Act as liaison with External Affairs and other external VTA groups.
  • Serve as point of contact to third‑party coordinator on issues related to CP.
  • Lead over‑the‑shoulder reviews with BART and other third parties.
  • Support the PM in monitoring overall design activities.
  • Track CP action items and communicate beyond the CP team.
