Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Senior Tunneling Design Unit Engineer to join our Transportation team in California. The role is based in a client office in San Jose and embedded with the contractor's design-build team.

You will lead the DU design efforts and coordinate with VTA, BART, Caltrans, Caltrain, UPRR and city stakeholders. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of geotechnical design experience, a Bachelor's in Geotechnical Engineering, and preferably a California PE.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 5+ years of post-education engineering experience with geotechnical design.
• California PE strongly preferred.
• Experience leading the design of large-diameter tunnel linings.
• Experience planning large-diameter tunneling projects in urban areas.
• Experience with stakeholders such as BART, Caltrans, Caltrain, UPRR, City of Santa Clara.

Responsibilities

• Program management staff embedded within the contractor's design-build team to liaison for a given design unit.
• Oversee tunnel lining, precast concrete manufacturing, TBM laydown, muck disposal, and tunneling work plans.
• Coordinate with Contractor's teams and external parties (BART, Caltrans, Caltrain, UPRR, City of Santa Clara).
• Integrate into Contractor's Design Unit teams and coordinate with DU Managers.
• Monitor design development progress, focus on requirements, interfaces, environment and ROW implications.
• Serve as resource to Contractor's DU Manager for CP2 coordination and program-wide issues.
• Coordinate responses to RFIs and external design submittal reviews.
• Participate in VTA design submittal reviews and stay current with engineering practices.
• Uphold ethics and company policies; manage schedule and resource needs; travel as required.
