Responsibilities

• Special Counsel specializes in a specific area of prosecution and serves as the office POC for those types of cases.
• Serve as POC/Subject Matter Expert for other ASPs who may be prosecuting cases in their area of expertise.
• Reviewing and evaluating evidence for prosecution of criminal cases.
• Submitting all necessary data and recommendations to the Chief Assistant for intake decisions to accept or reject cases for prosecution.
• Advising and assisting the investigating agency in the completion of investigations and preparation of cases for prosecution, including review of warrants and orders, statements, and expert consultation.
• Making charging decisions based on all relevant factors, in consultation with the Bureau Chief.
• Coordinating with other divisions or agencies for civil or administrative remedies when needed.
• Preparing and filing charging instruments.
